American Nordic Walking Assn class given in San Franciso Bay Area

On Friday we held an ANWA (American Nordic Walking Association)  “Workshop.” This 4-hour session covered A to Z Nordic Walking.

History, Benefits, technique, trail walking (asphalt and grass).  This is an introductory class that prepares students to continue on to become an ANWA certified instructor.

Nordic Walking on a sunny day

Attendee Dr. E. L. came all the way from Canada to learn from with Master Instructor, Rick Deutsch. Talk about enthusiasm! Like many students, he viewed my YouTube “How to” video to prepare. Homework!!

The class goes beyond the basis walk. Candidly, you are up an running in a very short time. We drill down to make sure you are dragging the poles, hands open, head up, and walking with a symmetric gait. The “Heart Rate” test is a super wya to illustrate the rise over just walking.  Yes, it’s easy to slip into bad habits without a Marine drill sergeant yelling at you (not me!)

We go along a quiet, tree lined creekside trail. The day is capped with learning some advanced techniques to really raise your heart rate even more!  We stretch at the end and all meet for a nice cafe lunch.

If you’d like to join our next workshop, go to the ANWA site and sign up!! We can also do private 1-1 sessions if that fits your schedule better. Weekdays or weekends.

Many students do go on to become instructors with their own business. We can advise  you how to start up.

Nordic Walking is emerging fast in the USA. Join the party!!

Carpe Diem!
