Finland study shows that walking does help you lose weight.

I’m not trying to “beat a dead horse”….but I think it’s important for Nordic Walkers to be fluent in why they are doing it. You will get laughs from others who think you cannot find the ski slopes. Can you handle those kinds of comments.  Be confident. Here’s more ammunition.

Nordic Walking – Head up, shoulders back, look ahead

Mika Venojärvi is a Researcher at the Institute of Biomedicine in Finland. He says that it is a fact that Nordic Walking is done primarily by ladies and older folks. Even in a country that invented Nordic Walking, some do not rate it up with skiing, hockey or gym visits.

Venojärvi confirms that walking works for overweight people who are sincerely trying to lose the fat.  A bonus is that it causes no strain or pain in the knees. If this is you … remember, it’s a two variable equation:  Input AND output. You have to watch what you eat….don’t just WATCH it go into your mouth. Study what you plan to gobble.  Keep away from processed food.

When I jog on a treadmill, it tells me that for 45 minutes I burn about 300 calories.  Have you ever read a candy bar?  Just one will negate all the work I did.

I think it’s great that fast food places in the USA have to list the calorie count in their food. I try to get salads.  Read the content of those giant “double patty with bacon and cheese” burgers.  You can get close to your recommended 2,000 daily calorie count with one of them! ONE!  That’s a lot of running and more Nordic Walking than you can do in hours!

MORE thoughts on losing weight

I found a game program from when I played basketball at the University of Maryland (last century). I was 6’2 and 165 lbs….. I’m still the same 6’2 but now 185.   I’d like to get down near that playing weight. Easier to amputate my arm to get there….but I try to have a salad for either lunch or dinner. That’s helping. Hey, I’m not fat, nor obsessed.

Oh, and watch your SALT.  2000 mg so a day is the limit. Again read the lable. Shhot for < 4% sodium.  A can of soup is about 900.  Processed food is loaded. It’s a called sodium…yes, NaCL – the same thing is in Sea Salt…yet people think…well it came from the sea so it must be good for you. IT’S STILL SODIUM CLORIDE! Artery clogging.

All for now – get those sticks moving!

Carpe Diem
