Should I use rubber tips or the steel ones on my poles?

I get inquires on the use of rubber tips.  We’ve talked about this in past blogs, but it’s worth bring to the top.

All true Nordic Waking poles come with “pull off” rubber tips to cover the carbide steel ones attached to the ends. Don’t use hiking poles for Nordic Walking – they are different.  Cheap Asian poles are made with cheapie components and will jam up over time.

As you know, I am a big fan of LEKI – the best. They have a great warranty.  When their poles are shipped to you the have a protective plastic cap over the tips. TAKE THEM OFF. They are NOT to be used while hiking.  They don’t tell you that in their literature.

The steel tips are great for trails and grass. Yes, get out and enjoy nature.  They will also work stellar on sidewalks and roads….but they are really noisy.  So, slip on the rubber tips. Aim the “flat” portion parallel to the surface. Get maximum contact. They will work upside down but will wear out fast.

Keep the tips flat

If you then want to transition to trails…just twist them off.  A tip – put a little talcum powder on the inside to make the easier to pull off. Stick them in your pocket and off you go.

That’s it. If you have watched the video at the home page, I will offer you 15% off any LEKI pole.  I keep a pair in my trunk along with my hiking poles. I use the latter for my local hikes and trips to Yosemite.

Keep waking!   Nordic Walking is fun and works!
